Thank you to the Cloud Security Alliance for the 2025 Juanita Koilpillai Service Award!

I wrote two papers on building secure agentic systems - one waaaay back in 2024 with Laura Cristiana Voicu and another in 2025 with Ken Huang. At the time, it didn't seem all that significant and took a lot of time to research and test as there wasn't much actually published on agents, agentic security and how to build systems that use these new tools.

Looking back and re-reading them, a shocking (to me at least) amount of what we wrote has held up surprisingly well given the pace of change in the field and the ambiguity that existed when we were writing.

If you're looking to learn more about these systems and build your knowledge, I very much encourage you to go and volunteer for efforts by the CSA, OWASP® Foundation, IEEE, ACM, Association for Computing Machinery and others to put the work in to research, codify and share information.

It always seemed to me like something out of reach but a (recently updated) post by the always insightful Phil Venables about participating in the broader community to help your career inspired me to jump in and lead some papers and I'm forever grateful for that advice.
